Spain also secures a substantial sugar advantage as its West Indian colonies supply about 75 percent of US imports and European bounty systems push Cuban sugar prices.
In Highwood two village marshals clash with fifteen Fort Sheridan soldiers. Three soldiers hospitalized and marshal Gordon wounded, with Cauley also injured. Both sides claim self defense and intoxication factors, the incident occurring on Highwood’s main street after 10 PM.
