Forest fire losses urged to prevent by man made causes
Information from the U S Department of Agriculture notes last year saw over 184000 forest fires harming about 46000000 acres. Ninety percent were man made and preventable. Farmers are advised to prune brush in winter and to use wood and felt weather stripping to cut drafts. Due to 1930 drought the U S Bureau of Biological Survey urges feeding upland game birds with standing corn, grain in sheaves, straw stacks and scattered grain in fields.

The Ackley World notes local supervisors’ proceedings show others seeking and receiving similar aid, while taxpayers foot the bill. The critic derides the system as one that relies on “ruts.”
