Cattle rose 1 percent to 4,769,000 while milk cows sank to 1,194,000 and hogs reached 10,836,000 with a 9 percent rise. The shift marks a turn from wartime peaks, with a large hog increase driving most gains as cattle and other species slip or stabilize.
