Half and Half Corn At Echo Shop Sparks Market Talk
Lew Gruver displayed an ear of corn at the Echo shop that is half red and half calico with eight rows. The note compares it to half and half bread and hints at potential market interest for such varied crops to feed stock. Cerro Gordo county bonds at two and one half percent poor fund finding were sold to a Des Moines bonding house, a rate check against state bonds. County bonds are portrayed as safer bets than state bonds, and the piece ends with a remark that good advertising is an investment rather than a cost.
