Fire destroys three Clermont businesses after furnace start
Twenty five years ago Frank Pringle's corner restaurant, pool room and ice cream parlor, housed in three adjoining two story frame buildings, were totally destroyed by fire Monday. The blaze, started from the furnace, left no chance of saving the property due to lack of fire protection. The Clermont Lutheran church hosted a wedding Thursday February 8, 1917, uniting Lillian Irene Kittleson and Joseph Theodore Olson in matrimony. Additional items note Carl Appelman visiting Armour, S. D., Mrs. W. R. Blake's trip to Cedar Rapids for spring millinery, two Clermont youths marrying at St. Peter's Church, Helen Appelman returning from Iowa City, a daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lubke, Anna Larrabee's return from Chicago after an appendectomy, Mabel Paulson and William Burrow's wedding at the Lutheran parsonage, and jurors Wm. Kelly, Wm. Cummings and Clarence Wagner in West Union.
