State Legislature Faces Hot Bills Before April Adjournment
Iowa lawmakers plan an April first adjournment as they wrestle with controversial measures. Key items include an income tax cut, a local option bill already dead in the senate, appropriations, school code, court procedure reforms, and a shifting child welfare bill with federal grant conditions drawing Republican opposition. Revenue trends show declines in December and January taxes, while a heartfelt story underscores immigrant ties to Iowa. The session schedules a spring recess from Feb 28 to March 8.
