Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wadena Presbyterian church for Mrs. Walter Cook with Pastor Lacy Mantin directing music by Mrs. Leallen Knox. Burial followed in Wadena cemetery. Elizabeth Frances Cook, born October 11, 1882 in Highland Township, Clayton county, died January 31, 1960 at age 77 after a life spent in Illyria and Wadena. She married Frank Kohler on October 11, 1905 and had two daughters, Mildred Holtzman and La Vone Dean.
Elizabeth Cook wife of Walter Cook died after illness. She married June 22 1947 and lived in Wadena. She belonged to the Presbyterian church and American Legion Auxiliary. Survived by husband two daughters five grandchildren twelve great grandchildren. Preceded by parents three sisters and one brother. Card of Thanks praises relatives friends and neighbors for support and honors Rev Lacy Martin Dr R E Allan Gleims pallbearers and American Legion group.
Clayton County Extension Calendar lists events for February including an area meeting on 4-H Quality Meat for several clubs at East Clermont church at 8:00 p.m. on Monday February 15, a Sewing Workshop at Guttenberg Municipal building at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday February 17, and Boys 4-H Leader training at 7:30 p.m. at the County Extension Office in Elkader. A Forestry Clinic February 11 6 spans from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Volga Blue Birds 4-H meet.
The Marion Busy Bees met at Reva and Marie Friederichs home on February 1 with 15 members answering roll call by favorite color. Demonstrations covered sewing hearts, matching plaid, laying patterns, grain line, and seam pressing. A sliding party is planned for February 12 and National 4 H Week will be held in March.
Mr and Mrs Clifford J Mulford celebrated their golden wedding at home on Sunday February 7 with about 760 relatives and friends visiting in the afternoon to extend best wishes and share in the milestone event.
Sally Stephenson led guest book duties while Mrs Rex Mulford Mrs John Tillotson and Mrs Lester Gehring served refreshments. Linda Stephenson read Clyde Mulford's original poem recalling Ada South Dakota homesteaders. Out of town guests included several families from Winthrop Har vard UL Oelwein Aurora Stanley and Elgin. Clyde and Elva Mulford united in marriage February 6 1910 at Ada South Dakota. They homesteaded adjacent claims then ran meat markets near Winthrop and Manchester before farming east of Winthrop on highway 20. The couple later owned poultry egg and feed businesses in Elgin and raised two children and several grandchildren.
Fayette County Board of Supervisors met in the courthouse with all members present. Approvals were given for Moose Country Home and Barney Oh for cigarette permits in Jefferson Township. Various quarterly fee reports from County Recorder Auditor Clerk Sheriff were approved. Multiple indemnity and inspector claims for tuberculosis and Bang disease were approved, listing numerous individuals.
