All State Budgeting Seeks Savings in 1943 Plan
Governor Bourke Hickenlooper outlines budget cuts in his 1943 message to the legislature. He notes a $1,000,000 deficit without capital improvements and identifies possible savings from suspending the 1943 code printing, using 1942 license plates, renewing 1941-43 licenses, and keeping vacancies. He cites increased food costs and education needs at institutions in Town City Ames and Cedar Falls, and hints at savings from State Guard costs at Camp Dodge.
