Baltimore Fire Destroys Business District and Hurts City
A massive Baltimore blaze began Sunday afternoon in the basement of the John E. Hurat company at Liberty and German streets and swept seven city blocks, destroying acres of wholesale and financial property as firemen from multiple cities fought the flames. The conflagration, extending from Liberty to Jones Falls and from Fayette to Pratt, destroyed offices of major banks and railroad companies, and even burned the Associated Press offices. By Monday afternoon the fire was under control, leaving blackened ruins in the once prosperous district.
