More Bad News for Automobile Owners
Iowa auto insurance rates are to rise this month as state insurance commissioner Oliver P Bennett notes 15 percent higher accidents in 1957 and rising costs. Last increases occurred in March 1957. Also discussed are road standards in southern Iowa with Cedar Malone urging higher load-bearing specs for Interstate roads, and a Clark county project completed prompting higher statewide standards. Campaign notes cover Jim Milroy guiding Dr. William Murray’s gubernatorial bid, Lt. Gov. Nicholas planning run, and the political scene in Des Moines. The Iowa agriculture department reports 610000 dollars yearly from 42 licenses, with new beer permit forms now required and proof of business ownership. About 3546 new teachers will join Iowa schools, but shortages loom in elementary, junior high, special education, and retarded children. A retired town businessman has paid 69905 dollars in back taxes.
