The Elgin Echo Dial published every Thursday by Strauch & Hermen in Elgin Iowa. It is a second class mail matter dated September 1 1891 and mailed at the Elgin post office in Fayette County Iowa under the March 3 1852 act.
Mrs. Cowles taught 3rd and 4th grades Thursday and Friday while Mrs. Pardee was ill. Mrs. Leo Grether taught 5th and 6th grades Tuesday and Wednesday due to Mrs. Iverson’s flu. 6th graders study Iowa history. Absent: Harold Wheeler, Jean Cox, Mary Schaefers. Freshman home ec made a simple breakfast in class. Sophomores sent $5 to the March of Dimes. Juniors work on a prophecy for the senior annual. Second religion class held Thursday. 7th and 8th grades bought new books with candy money and plan to give $5 to the March of Dimes.
The Pathfinder class of the Volga Methodist church met after Sunday morning service with Mr and Mrs Ernest Smith for a picnic dinner. Attendees included the Rev and Mrs Maynard, Mr and Mrs Will Chase, Mrs Alma Follon, Mr and Mrs Irwin Baumgartner, Wm Ewing, and Mr and Mrs Arthur.
Dinner guests visited the Vane Oldfather home with multiple families in Guttenburg and Volga. A Pioneer 4-H sleigh party gathered 36 youths at LaVerne Druecker’s, with no injuries. Volga school election yielded five board members, with results for 1953 to 1955 terms and a two-year treasurer term. Christmas seals contributed 109.45 dollars to tuberculosis work. Oliver Follon named to the Northeast Iowa Council of Boy Scouts of America at a January meeting.
The Fayette County Board of Supervisors met in the supervis ors office to review and approve a long list of claims for county expenses. Names include Binley Charlie Go Hudnall Hutchine Hopp and many more for salaries, court costs, poor relief, medical aid, repairs, and supplies. The session continued with extensive itemized warrants and adjournment procedures.
