Towa 1966 Soybean Crop Largest On Record

Towa farmers produced over 153 million bushels of soybeans in 1966 across more than 5 million acres. The average yield was 29.5 bushels per acre, not a record, but the total production was the largest ever recorded in Iowa. Iowa State University analyst C R Weber notes the 1963 peak yield was 30.5 bushels per acre for comparison.

St Theresa's Circle Met January 24

The January 24 meeting of St Theresa's Circle was held at Mrs Joe Leshy's home with seven members present. The president led the Prayer to St Theresa and the business meeting followed the installation of new officers. Plans for the coming year were discussed and a prayer for peace closed the gathering. Lunch was served. Mrs Doyle Baker will host February's meeting.

Mrs. Otto Blockhus entertained the Sunny Dale Club at the January 24 meeting. Guest Mrs. Carmen Swenson shared slides from a European trip. Mrs. M. J. Blockhus led devotions. Lunch followed the gathering. February meeting date to be announced.

ISEA Delegate Assembly to Hear Iowa Educators

Russell Gooddell of Valley among 411 educators to represent over 33 000 Iowa State Education Association members at the annual Delegate Assembly in Des Moines February 2 3 and 4. Governor Hughes to address education at Friday banquet as the 1897 Assembly will be the largest yet with 411 delegates.

Rodney Gilson baptized Sunday at St Pauls Church

Rodney Alan Gilson infant son of Mr and Mrs Curtis Gilson was baptized Sunday with Rev Lee Roy Collins officiating. After the service the Gilsons hosted dinner at his mother's home Agnes Gilson. Guests included Kenneth Hellum Postville Willis Schultz family Darwin Gilson Marion and Clara Hellum. Emil Schultz Postville also visited afternoon.

Obituary of Violet Tope in West Union

Violet Tope 51 of West Union died Friday January 13 at Palmer Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday January 16 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Meyer officiating. Burial was in West Union Cemetery. Born December 25 1915 in Elgin she was the only child of Melvin and ? Reinhart. She married Clarence Tope on September 7 1934 and had two sons.
