Towa 1966 Soybean Crop Largest On Record
Towa farmers produced over 153 million bushels of soybeans in 1966 across more than 5 million acres. The average yield was 29.5 bushels per acre, not a record, but the total production was the largest ever recorded in Iowa. Iowa State University analyst C R Weber notes the 1963 peak yield was 30.5 bushels per acre for comparison.

St Theresa's Circle Met January 24
The January 24 meeting of St Theresa's Circle was held at Mrs Joe Leshy's home with seven members present. The president led the Prayer to St Theresa and the business meeting followed the installation of new officers. Plans for the coming year were discussed and a prayer for peace closed the gathering. Lunch was served. Mrs Doyle Baker will host February's meeting.

Obituary of Violet Tope in West Union
Violet Tope 51 of West Union died Friday January 13 at Palmer Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held Monday January 16 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Meyer officiating. Burial was in West Union Cemetery. Born December 25 1915 in Elgin she was the only child of Melvin and ? Reinhart. She married Clarence Tope on September 7 1934 and had two sons.
