Seeds and Seed Law Warnings for Iowa Farmers
Tests on farm seeds sold in Iowa show vigilance is needed by farmers and inspectors. Farmers may have seed samples analyzed for 50 cents by the Iowa Department of Agriculture in Des Moines. Seed dealers must provide analyses and label packages with variety, purity, germination, noxious weeds and year grown. Seeds are banned if a five gram sample contains more than one seed of listed weeds. Purchasing from Iowa dealers offers protection, as out of state dealers may ship without full compliance.
