A 1911 Postville column provides a mixed patch of society items, ads, and local happenings. It notes a Clermont Thursday dance attendance, Mayo brothers illness, fur and cement ads, Dora Mathews and Ina Kohler at Farmersburg, and concerns about town governance and salaries to deter graft, concluding with a moral on public pay and integrity. The house fire near Dorchester ends with a tragedy of a missing child.
Local Elgin items cover purchases of Modoc Liniment and kerosene, plans to close out children’s garments, visits of Robert Earle and Edward Fauerbry, and neighborly travels. Reports mention a forthcoming Mask Ball, a West Union creamery talk, and social events at the 500 club with Mrs. Gehring and Mrs. Dean’s scores. Also noted are library style notes, renamed figures, and the Iowa picnic in Los Angeles for 1911.
