Christmas Turkeys Delayed by Belligerent Cook in Women’s Boarding House
A concert singer recalls a Christmas at a working women’s home where the cook, intoxicated after whiskey, refused to serve dinner to all but the matron and a resident. The singer aided a drunk kitchen worker to bed, delaying meals for others. The cook left, then was rarely rehired, and the residents later shunned the pair who caused the disruption.
