Mr and Mrs Walter Lundy and family of Decorah spent Friday visiting in the Henry C Olson home. Mr and Mrs Keith Thoma and Michael spent Monday in Cedar Rapids and also visited the Thoma family at Springville.
West Clermont Lutheran Sunday School presents a Christmas program on December 25 featuring Prelude by Elsie Jerdee and Ramona Qlaan, hymns sung by Sunday School Choirs and Congregation, scripture reading and prayer, anthems and solos by various students, and a closing benediction by Rev. Nesset with distribution of gifts. The program includes selections by Primary Classes, Junior and Senior Choirs, Girls Chorus, Verse Choir, and multiple vocal solos, concluding with the Coming of the Wise Men and final prayers.
A special christening at Union Sunday School Sunday at 4 o clock saw Rev Charles Ed wards of Decorah baptize Anna the daughter of Mr and Mrs R W Steele The godmother Miss Anna Larrabee offered organ preludes The ceremony referenced Princess Elizabeth and Prince Charles music Then a tea in Anna's honor hosted by Mr and Mrs Wm R Blake featured many guests with table decora tions of Christmas holly and candles
The Mothers' Club of East Clermont met at Pearl Larson's home on Tuesday December 14. The gathering opened with Silent Night and a scripture reading. Delores Bilden led a program on Christmas Homes with poems by Jeleen and Delores Bilden, followed by carols and lunch hosted by Pearl Larson and Jeleen Bilden.
The lingering illness of Mrs. Christine Kittelson ended in death Saturday December 18 at the home of her son Clifford with whom she lived. She was B years old. Funeral services were held Monday at the East Clermont Lutheran church. Her life sketch will be published next week.
Mr and Mrs John Bakewell entertained at a Christmas party Wednesday evening Five hundred furnished the entertainment and prizes were won by Gordon Hoopman and Ruth Nelson Elmer Nelson and Edith Paulson Harlan Schultz won the traveling prize Door prize was won by Gordon Hoopman A late lunch was served Guests included Elmer and Edith Nelson Harold Triem Gordon Hoopman Harlan Schultz Russell Pratt Ralph Schrader and Truman Paulson
Maxine and Jme Westcott of Maynard were guests Sunday at the Eulivast residence. Bre Mont, who recently left a hospital stay, returned home.
The Christmas program at Union Sunday School will be presented Friday evening Dec 24 at 5 30 pm. All are invited to join in singing carols followed by gifts for attendees. Gifts may be left Friday afternoon 2 to 4 pm. The program features an organ prelude, recitations, carols, and various performances by Beginners Primary and Congregation groups with poems and readings ending with a Christmas Benediction.
Mrs. George Belschner hosted the Amvet Auxiliary on Monday December 13 with Mrs. Martin Amundson assisting. The group reported on Sunny Crest hospital donations and convention highlights. A memoriam wreath for Richard L. Olson was placed and members discussed services for air travelers at Clermont and potential home accommodations.
The Woodland Study Club held its Christmas party and regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon December 14 at the home of Mrs Alma Aanes with fifteen members and eight guests present. The meeting opened with Silent Night and a scripture reading. The secretary's report was read and approved. Roll call was answered with a Christmas poem. The birthday song was sung for Sadie Erhardt and Arsella Hemaseth. Gifts were exchanged and carols sung. Guests included Mrs Hilda Agnes Mrs James Gunderson and Brian Mrs Lyle Agnes and David Mrs Rob Grimes Clarice and Jean Agnes. Lunch was served by the hostess.
Lutheran Church announces Christmas Day festival services at West Clermont 9:30 a.m. and East Clermont 11:00 a.m. A Sunday school program is planned at West Clermont 8:00 p.m. on Sunday December 26 with Highland festival service at 11:00 a.m. and program at 8:00 p.m. Rehearsals and additional programs scheduled across West and East Clermont and Elgin with notices to members and friends for a Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.
The pastor and family express hearty thanks for the lovely box sent by congregation members. The next service is scheduled for Sunday evening, January 2.
Confessions Dec 24 from 3 to 5 pm and 9 pm to 9 pm with special Christmas day appointment option. Masses Dec 25 include 8 10 am with choir program and High Mass at 8 30 am and two Low Masses of Thanksgiving. Dec 26 Masses 8 and 10 am, parish picnic dinner 7 30 pm, night prayers 9 pm. New Year's Eve holy hour at 8 pm and Jan 1 Masses as on Sundays.
Dinner guests Sunday included Henry and Larson couples with children from Asian origins, Henry and Henry Veller, Louie Amundson, Dan Dahmen and Jannan visiting Mrs. Lorrine Crowe for Christmas. Dahmen joins later for the holiday. Monday visitors to Vern Eagle's home included Henry Radloff Verdean Judy Jacobin Reuben Svendsen Luana and John Bakewell Jacquelyn. Dianne and Beverly Svendsen returned home with their father from weekend with grandparents. Julia Bilden left Sunday for Millard Bilden home for a few days.
I wish to thank my friends and neighbors for their cards and visits while I was at Decorah hospital and convalescing at home. They made my stay more pleasant. Fremont Sullivan.
Mrs Hans J Larson Mr and Mrs Geo Y Larson and Mrs Aulden Cornish spent Thursday in La Crosse visiting the Cooley boys and their families and Mr and Mrs Howard Larson and family. Mary Ann Nelson came Wednesday from Cedar Falls where she is attending college to spend a weeks vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Nelson.
An unusual Christmas crib with colored chalk tinted figures of the Christ Child Mary Joseph lambs and a Bethlehem background painted by Father Downing is on display at St. Peter's Church Visitors are welcome and the church is open daily.
