Mrs. Keith Thoma presided over the American Legion Auxiliary meeting at Mrs. Millard Bear's home with co-hostess Mellian Loftsgard. Gifts were given to ill members and to the Fayette County Association for Retarded Children. Donations were made to Christmas seals and the Heart fund. Veterans hospital gifts planned and bonds bought for unit savings. Clermont Union Sunday School invites all to Christmas Eve services with a program and community tree, carols at 7:30 p.m. Readings and songs performed by local students. A ladies bridge party was hosted by Mrs. Herbert Dummermuthen. A daughter Kathryn Kay was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nelson Jr. of Cedar Rapids on Dec 14.

Joe Wander and wife visited their brother George Wander at Methodist hospital where he is recovering from surgery. Henry Schweinerus returned home from Postville hospital much improved. Floyd Bergeson took his mother to Iowa City for a hip check up. Mrs Frank Leahy returned home after a month in Postville hospital. Mrs Louis A Olson spent time at La Crosse Lutheran hospital and clinic, visiting with Gordon Schupbach and others. she plans further treatment.

Clemente I M Clem Kneeland born December 30 1889 in Clermont Iowa was a longtime businessman and church member. He died December 13 at University Hospital Iowa City after two weeks there and months of ill health leaving widow Viola a son Ralph stationed at Fort Dix and daughter Ellen of Clermont with brothers and sisters surviving. Funeral held December 15 at St Peters Catholic Church Clermont with burial in the church cemetery.
