Alcoholism in Iowa debated by UI researcher
A University of Iowa sociologist explains Iowa's estimated 60,000 drinkers fall into three categories: problem drinkers, alcohol addicts, and chronic alcoholics. He frames alcoholism as both illness and public health issue, needing a multidisciplinary treatment team and community support. The series notes research from the General Assembly in 1955 and ongoing State Psychopathic Hospital involvement.
