Insane Asylums Probe Flags Waste in Iowa Counties
Des Moines dispatch notes that the board of control’s inquiry into twenty seven Iowa county insane asylums reveals widespread mismanagement. It cites indiscriminate confinement of paupers and inmates, lack of skilled medical staff, no fire protection, and argues Fayette county’s new county poor farm asylum is unusable for its intended purpose and funds should improve the poor instead.
