Elgin High School News and Football Banquet Report

The program included player introductions by Mr. Walker and acknowledgments of the team’s season, while classes cover state governments, biology insects, and literature units. Additional notes cover sophomore and freshman activities, grade-level class reports, and recent basketball results at Fayette with Elgin falling 57 to 44.

Commodity Price Index Declines For All Farm Products
Tawa's price received index for all farm products fell in the month ending November 15, down 3 percent to 258 percent of the 1910-14 base. October 15 stood at 267 and the November 15, 1952 index was 267. All-crop index rose 3 points while barley and rye lagged. Wheat gained 9 cents, oats 2 seats per bushel, soybeans 19 cents, flaxseed 9 cents. Livestock index dropped 4 percent, meat animals down due to hogs 1.00 per cwt, cattle 0.70 and sheep 0.70. Dairy rose slightly on butterfat, but did not offset poultry and eggs decline.

Farmer's Type Hog Raises to Market Weight
A historical caption describes a “Farmer's Type Hog” pair, a market barrow and its boar brother. The barrow weighs about 200 pounds at five months and yields roughly half its live weight in primal cuts. It gained nearly one pound for each three pounds of feed.
