Why Butter is High
Elgin Farmers Dairy Secretary Melehr Lachsinger explains butter prices rise due to high export to Europe since May. From May to Nov 18 exports reached 223,790 packages versus 78,403 last year, with New York receipts 43,190 for week ending Nov 21. Europe exports, mainly to England, face risks as some ships are sunk. Eastern demand stays strong amid munition wages, while cold storage holdings are over 12 million pounds below last year.
