Fayette County Journalism in 1860 Newspaper History
In spring 1860 Rev Wm Brush, Fayette Seminary president, bought Fayette Journal material and hired editors, later passing to Lakin and Wadd, then changing names to North Town Observer. By 1867 Lakin withdrew, C G Coley and Vines led, paper became Volga Valley Times until 1874, then Fayettes News under Burch & Beuby, with further edits. Growth, moves, and trials trace a turbulent chain of Fayette County publications through 1860s, ending with Payette County Union start in 1860 under McClintock and Mickel.
