A Good Name and Long Run of Community Opinion
A columnist argues that a man's real character is revealed by the average opinion of neighbors, friends, and enemies over many years. Reputation mirrors character, shaped by popularity in civic matters and actions observed by the community. The piece cites Jesus and William Jennings Bryan to illustrate the long view of public judgment. It ends with a call to pursue a good name as the true measure of a person.
