Poetry and pictures shape a child's growing interests
A WWII era Iowa segment urges libraries to balance information with culture for children, highlighting poetry's rhythm, picture books, art exposure, and early appreciation. It notes that young readers enjoy sounds before meaning and recounts a nursery trip to an art exhibition as evidence that art appeals to children too. Also mentions Squirrels chewing telephone cables in Waverly and a film adaptation by Metro Goldwyn-Meyer with Clark Gable slated as Rhett Butler.
