Richard L. Olson, local John Deere dealer, hosts a John Deere Day on Thursday at Olson's Implement Store. The event features a 10:00 p.m. viewing at Johnsons Hall, free lunch with tickets, prize giveaways, and invitations to all farmers and families to attend and enjoy talking pictures.
The annual Christmas seals drive is underway as a voluntary effort to save lives. Mrs. Dan Carpenter buys the first seal in Clermont, and donors are urged to purchase promptly and use the seals to support the campaign.
Annual lutefisk supper and bazaar set for Wednesday December 7 at West Clermont Lutheran church parlors. Serving begins 5 PM with menu including lutefisk, potatoes, fried chicken, vegetables, lefse, cranberries, rolls, cakes and coffee. Adults 40 cents, children 25 cents. Ev eryone welcome.
The season opened with two wins over Alumni squads. Boys won 25 to 15 with Gilbert 8 Schrader 8 Gress 7, girls 38 to 20 with Janet Olson 14 Phyllis Gress 14 Dorothy Brorby 10. Declamatory contest held Nov 22 crowned winners Louis Schrader Laird Cline Amazette Henderson Arlene Amundson Chrystal Miller Franklin Olson. First-place winners face Hawkeye Elgin West Union in state series. Subcounty finals set for Dec 11 with Clermont Wadena Elgin. Alpha enters oratory contestant. admission free. remember Dec 6.
Thieves entered J A Erickson s garage Sunday night and stole the radio from a car along with the spare tire and wheel and several other articles. Deputy Sheriff Art Kutschat suspects an organized gang amid a wave of similar burglaries in the area. Prowlers were heard near Mrs Mary White s home after midnight but nothing was disturbed. Thanksgiving visits and dinners are noted among local families including Engelhart, Ferguson, Anderson, Lyngaas, Larson, and Rounds households with multiple relatives visiting in Luana, Anamosa, and Cedar Rapids areas.
The Business and Professional Women's Club met Monday evening at Louise Miller's home with 23 members and one guest. Beulah Gunderson was installed as president and named committees for Membership, Relief, Sick and Visiting, Program, and Birthday. A Dec 19 Christmas party at Len Simek's home was planned with assisting hostesses. A community tree donation drive committee was formed. Prizes in bridge went to H. A. Lubke and Geneva Wells. Refreshments were provided by hostesses.
Decorah dr uggist Roy Darling concluded a closing out sale of the Peck drug stock here last week and into this week, reporting at least 75 percent sold. The building will be vacated by December first as it has been leased for a meat market. Darling and wife enjoyed meeting new friends during their stay in Decorah.

A long chain of local visits unfolds through the week with Mildred Olson and Mildred Larson spending Sunday afternoon together. Numerous guests visit in Waterloo Elgin and nearby towns, including the Hydens, Hansons, and Cline households. Neighbors of Mr and Mrs Melvin Olson hosted a farewell party at their home on Sinadsiy evening. The gathering included Fayvald Tymengans and Janet, Martin Amundson, Emma Gunderson, Bewah and Merle, Anson Helgerson and Trene, Arthur Helgerson and Kenneth Anderson, with refreshments served after visiting.
The Clermont Study Club met in the afternoon at Jr. Carr home with fifteenth members present. Roll call answered by “Prison Reforms” and plans to sponsor a Vesper service this Christmas season. Members reviewed books and engaged in social visits with neighbors including Ossian Arlington and Albert Lea trip coverage. Inclusive notes mention Palma Gilbertson resuming duties and Thanksgiving gatherings with multiple families.
