Monroe Family Reunion At West Union Fairgrounds
The sixth annual Monroe family reunion was held Sunday August 26 at the West Union fair grounds with sixty relatives present. Six births and two marriages occurred in the past year. Martha Rae four weeks old daughter of Merle and Mrs. Monroe of Castalia was the youngest. Mrs. Christena Monroe aged 80 was the oldest attendee.

Emil Schneider was treated at West Union hospital for back and other injuries after a Tuesday evening car truck collision three miles west of his Fayette county home. He drove a Nelson Lumber Co. lumber truck and hit Lester Moody of Hawkeye at an intersection blocked by corn and weeds. Moody received cuts and bruises. no charges were filed.

The Clermont Public Schools opened Monday morning August 27 with a public flag raising and a sequence of polish school events. Cler mont FFA members from Cler mont participated in the Elkader fair tractor rodeo on Saturday with Rowland Hackmann tied for second in the restricted gate event and Robert Nelson placing second in the wagon hook up. The event drew 39 boys from 13 schools and the local team finished sixth.
