The Richs event, “Pipe Dreams,” returned former residents for a grand gathering with friends from years past. The event, primarily a visiting bee, drew crowds and recaptured local pride amid county fair-season bustle.
The Elgin Homecoming impressed visitors with warm hospitality, a lively parade, and popular bands led by Little Swiss Band and the Fife and Drum Corps. The Cordishity extended appreciation for acts making homecoming pleasant and a note that attendees should feel the warmth again. Bill Blake of Clermont enjoyed the parade and says it was worth the trip. The Etter brothers Fred Ern and Lou from Minnesota are back after 55 years, still keen on Elgin, and many homecomers attended Sunday services led by Rev. Stoeckman and Rev. Snyder, closing with God Be With You Till We Meet Again.
The Elgin celebration featured a polished downtown, a weed sighting, and welcome rain that dispersed a large crowd. A closing union service at 10:00 AM in the school auditorium was led by Rev. George Snyder of Wilkes-Barre and Rev. C F Stoeckman of St. Paul, with a sermon on standing before God and a hopeful note for future homecomings.
