Fremont Ogle and family visit, Ruth Rothisberger, Hilda Klingman and others attend gatherings. Many calls at Klingman, Chapman, Peters, and Richards homes. Transfers include C M Klingman selling an eighty five acre farm to Walter Wilbur and various neighbors hosting, visiting, and threshing help.
Mr and Mrs Mervin Brown spent Monday in Oolwain. Mrs Ditza Grimes visited her mother Mrs Heluts on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Geo Tripp joined a soldiers reunion in West Union on Tuesday. Arthur Patterson Eva Reed and others toured Hawkeye. Anna Miller traveled to Clermont to consult a doctor about her son. Martin Hovey and family went to Decorah for the County Fair. A Crain E Meyers and family attended Decorah Fair. Myron Burnside and family of Strawberry Point stayed with Jim Bartlett. B Blanchard Geo Craft attended a funeral in Waucoma for Blanchard’s uncle. Reno and Theodore Blanchard of Waucoma visited Geo Craft. Mrs Charles Peters drove to New Hampton for a day at the McAloon home. Mrs D Clements and Mrs Flora Thompson returned to West Unity after weeks visiting here.
Gunder prepares for a two day home coming on August 30 and 31 with a morning registration period, a parade and student exercises, service members in uniform, a post band, speaker Mr. Marshall from Cedar Rapids, a home talent play, fireworks, a Sunday memorial service led by Rev. Tanner, a West Clermont youth program, speakers Gen. Allen and Attorney Ainsworth, a Sunday reception for service members, Clermont Band music, and stunt flights by Clifton Penn Otteson from McGregor. All veterans will be honored guests.
The Fayette County Fair at West Union from August 25 to 29 shows signs of surpassing previous events. It offers ample exhibits, superior stock, a valuable vaudeville show, and a grand fireworks display, all at a single admission price. Secretary B. H. Mellrea at West Union provides information on request.
An old advertisement touts Hall's Catarrh Medicine as the cure for catarrh for thirty five years. It promises blood action to heal mucous surfaces and urges immediate use with testimonials and a one hundred dollar reward for incurable cases. It lists druggists and price of seventy five cents from J Chehdy and Co Toledo Ohio.
Fayette County farmers are urged to collect soil samples from multiple field spots and bring them to the West Union Fair for testing. Local extension representatives will test samples for cleanliness soil quality and limestone suitability and provide guidance on fertilizing materials. A soil exhibit will show fertilizing value and pamphlets with limestone and phosphate suppliers. Mrs Blough of Decorah visits with sister Mrs Kohler of Weat Bend joining locals for a few days.
