A Clermont column lists numerous visitors and relatives in town for Dairy Days and summer events. Names include Eva from Cedar Rapids convalescing after pneumonia, Waide Emberson, Frank and Olivia Olson, Gundersons, Skeltons, Skarshaug, Marties, and many others from Waterloo to Chicago. The piece records visits, dinners, weddings, commencements, and travel plans, with multiple trips to Clermont and surrounding towns.
The Fayette County Board of Supervisors will meet August 30 1960 at 10 00 AM at the Court House West Union Iowa Taxpayers may be heard for or against proposed expenditures for the fiscal year beginning January 1 1961 The figures listed include several appropriations with a total around 16 55 and other numeric entries.
The regular meeting of the town council was held with Mayor Will J Nelson presiding. Councilmen present were Riegel Nygaard Johnson and Appelman. Councilman Griebenow was absent. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The session moved by Appelman and seconded by Johnson allowed bills as read. Payments include Internal Revenue withholding 324.60, Interstate Power Co park and street lights totaling 76.80, hall lights 33.60, pump 33.60, July salaries for John Barnhouse 240.48 Geo Durocher and Woodrow Hyde listed, dump option 85.00, Clermont Fire Dept truck care 10.00, Ed Barnes park labor 31.98, Jess Taylor labor 72.75, and Sinclair Service oil gas and filter 9.24.
The council adjourned after a brief meeting with no further business. Town Clerk Geo. Duracher noted the adjournment at 14.40.
