A weekly safety article by Dr. A R Lauer for the American Legion State Highway Safety Council reviews evidence on older drivers. It notes studies show men aged 50 to 55 tend to lose driving ability due to high blood pressure slower reaction time diminished vision and greater anxiety, suggesting older drivers are poorer than in youth.
Rev J F McCaffery of Clermont decries efforts by a few mine operators to use force and legal injunctions to shield high salaried officials, urging competent arbitration instead. He warns against bullheadedness and calls for aged, responsible conduct in addressing labor conflicts.
The seventh annual Medberry reunion was held at West Union fair grounds on Aug 7. A picnic dinner, brief program and business meeting followed. Officers elected for the coming year include C H Medberry president Rex Medberry first vice Ivan Medberry second vice Max Medberry secretary and Perry Medberry treasurer. The next reunion will be the first Sunday in August 1933 at the same location. Attendees included Mrs Charlotte Medberry Fayette Iowa Mrs F L Robbins Jessie Medberry Oelwein and numerous Medberry relatives from Illinois and Minnesota.

County Superintendent L G Meyer calls all Fayette rural teachers to a 9am meeting August 27 at the West Union high school. The session precedes the upcoming school year as a preparatory gathering for teachers who plan to teach. Maxine Richards of Fairfield township will represent Fayette in the 4 H girls health contest at the Iowa state fair with 96.5 points. Mr and Mrs Lorenz Schatz and daughter Diane visit relatives in Minneapolis this week.
Oak Grove residents and guests from nearby towns filled weekend with calls and dinners. Bob Wilson and family visited with relatives, others hosted at the Denner, Boyle, Howard, and Pritchard homes. Several trips included travel to Logansport Indiana and Elkader, plus various social gatherings and church group meetings.
George Boyle and children and Shel don Boyle and daughters were dinner guests Thursday in the Walter Kohla Ben Brabham and family and Mr and Mrs Thomas Howard were guests Sunday in the Palmer Bartholomew home in West Union. Numerous other households hosted or joined gatherings including Mr and Mrs Wi Frederick and Mr and Mrs Donald Gilson, Jon Garis of Oak Park Illinois, Wd Talcott, Floyd Bark, Harold Strong, Reuben Howard and Hazel, George Howard, Louis Becker, Chas Peters and families, Arthur Patterson, Wil Sullivan, Frank Lyon, Joe Peters at Brainard, Albert and Herbert Dummermuth and families with Hazel Patterson at a Tuesday party in Emery Dummermuth home for Ops Dummermuth birthday. Fern, Vera and Genevieve Northtrup, Mrs Harley Seedorf and Helen Seedorf of Arlington visited Lyle Wilson home Sunday. Wilson accompanied them to McGregor in the afternoon. John Howard and Herman Boyer households hosted or joined family time Sunday. Walter Kohls and family and Nyles Hogan joined Sheldon Boyle home at Elgin Saturday.
