John A. Johnson of Hartford proved farming can yield profits like urban trades. He bought 46 Hereford cattle eight months ago, fed them on his Johnson community farm, then shipped to Butchers Dressed Meat Co in New York City. The cattle averaged 1200 pounds, gaining over 500 pounds in eight months and selling for more than £100 each, leaving a net profit rivaling a good year's salary for an Ohio County professional after feed, labor, freight, and other costs.
Postville will not oil its dirty crushed rock streets this year after the city council cancelled the contract at last Friday night's meeting. Over ninety residents signed petitions opposing the improvement. many showed willingness to pay for previous work, but officials paused further action.
G. E. Everett announces another dividend by Wadena Saving Bank. Ten percent checks are ready at Wadena for depositors and may be withdrawn each Tuesday at Wadena or on any day at the State Bank of Weat Union. Further dividends promised later.
