Center Street Birthday Club gathered Thursday evening at Mrs Harry Everett home to celebrate her birthday. Members present included Mrs Anne Dennler Mrs Bettina Halverson Mrs John Grimm Mrs Leon Hansen Mrs C B Schori Mrs Walter Lehman Mrs C O Torkelson Mrs Bess Stohr Mrs Stella Boyle and Mrs Earl Lembke with one guest Mrs Isaac Streepy Centerville mother of Mrs Leon Hansen.
The Meyer reunion gathered 83 members at Clyria church on Sunday August 8 replacing the Will Christen home due to rain. Attendees included Francis Furay Detroit Michigan Paul Christen Omaha Nebraska Sharon Munch Council Bluffs and many Meyer family members from Des Moines West Union Fayette Volga Elgin and nearby areas. Lizzie Chase aged 80 Volga was oldest present and Kristie Meyer daughter of Dennis Meyer Elgin was youngest.
The Elgin Iowa town council met in regular session at the town hall with Mayor and Councillors Capper DeSart and Mueklethaler present Absent were Adrian and Heins Minutes from previous meeting were read and approved Bills were audited and allowed by Capper and Muehlethauer totaling 26471 51 with entries from Sanitation Waterworks and General Funds including Interstate Power Co Arweit Inc Schori and Kuster Labr Co and others for labor fuel and supplies
Council records show street repair progress and final Gunget consideration with no objections. Reimbursement approved for four residents’ labor on curbs and gutters. July receipts listed for General, Waterworks, Road Use Tax and Liquor Profit funds. meeting adjourned.
The Fabricate Club held its annual picnic at the upper Elgin park on Thursday evening. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Russell Friederich and family, the Loftsgards, Seitz family, Frieden family, Butikofer family, Halversons, Chapman, Frieden, Johnson, and numerous relatives and friends.
The Milyria Livestock 4 H Club met at John Rothlisberger’s home on August 2. Louis Christen presided. Secretary and treasurer reports were given. Committees for stall decoration and family night were assigned. A future softball game was decided. Talks covered calf clipping, leadership conference, citizenship tour, and an educational trip to Mason City. Lunch was served by Mrs Roy Rothlisberger.
Diana Butikofer and Marvin Dean Schroeder exchanged marriage vows Sunday August 8 at St Pauls Lutheran chapel Postville. The double ring ceremony began at 2 p.m. Rev Holmquist officiated. Parents are Lawrence Butikofer Sigin and Willard Schroeder Postville. The bride wore a street length slipper satin dress with lace rose motifs and a scalloped neckline, veil with silk illusion, and pink rose corsage.
Mrs. Dennis Butikofer served as matron of honor in a mint green brocade dress with a matching pilbox hat. Robert Schroeder acted as best man for his brother. The bride, a Valley High School graduate and Elgin Canning Co. secretary, will live in Postville after August 12 following a ceremony at Airport Inn Elkader.
The P V Sharpshooters held a June tour of local projects and a July meeting at Duane Reeder’s with entries filled for fair entries. Duane Reeder gave a talk. next meeting is August 2 at Jeff Clines with lunch by Mrs Reeder. The 33 Book Club members reached 1525 books in six weeks. Dixie Reierson led with 180 and won a miniature train prize. Story Hour with Miss Flanagan drew 58 children, two babies, two adults, and a white rabbit. program included stories, records, and action plays.
The reading contest at the Elgin Public Library ended August 7 with forty participants. Thirty three were recognized for their achievement, highlighting local youth literacy efforts and community reading initiatives.
A lighthearted folk tale features a couple named Frederick and Kate in a humorous domestic vignette. The plot follows their misadventures and playful misunderstandings, ending with a quaint, cheerful outcome that reflects everyday whimsy.
The 9th annual Dummermuth family reunion gathered Sunday Aug 1 at St Pauls Methodist Church in Elgin, drawing 46 relatives including Earl and Pearl Dummermuth and many listed cousins and spouses from Cedar Falls West Union Lake Mills Monona and Des Moines. Two births and one marriage were noted, with new officers elected for the coming year. Numerous social visits followed among attendees and local residents.
Mrs Selma Kohls Mrs Rose Baechler and Mrs Fred Wedo attended the wedding of Beverly Miller and Merill Kindall in Pepin Wisconsin Saturday. Guests also visited Maiden Rock and were hosted by Ralph Collett and Louise Miller with Florence Baldwin noted among attendees.
