German Gliders in Competition Ends in Fatal Air Accident
A Gliding competition in the Rhone district organized by the League of German Model Aircraft Clubs ended disastrously with the death of renowned pilot Von Loessel due to structural failure of his glider. Monoplanes and biplanes competed, with record flights of up to 1880 meters and 380 meters altitude achieved by Klemperer, though the event was marred by the fatal accident and dangerous new glider designs. The report, drawn from Scientific American, notes improved seating and gear reducing injuries compared with older open-glider designs.

Canadians Toss Bottle Aboard En Route To War 1918
A group of Canadian soldiers crossing the Atlantic during June 1918 reportedly threw a sealed bottle with a note into mid ocean asking the finder to forward it to the Toronto Sunday World. The bottle washed ashore years later in a small Atlantic fishing town, bringing a curious message and a slice of wartime history.
