Traffic safety plan announced by State Commissioner

Donald Statton announced a basic traffic safety pattern for spring and summer. The entire 278 member highway patrol will be on road duty Fridays and Saturdays, with two thirds on Sundays. Friday shifts may run to 3 a.m. and some Saturday shifts to 3 a.m. Sunday. The aim is enforcement around late night taverns clubs and dance halls. The plan includes concentrated patrol districts, two hour license checks weekly, and shuttle patrols to monitor multiple lines of traffic. A Western Contracting Corp bid for Red Rock Dam work came in at 1,442,606, about one million below Corps estimates. A Civil Rights Commission report notes housing and other discrimination against Negro residents in town, while state income tax collections run nearly 2 million below estimates for the 1000 fiscal year.
