Warning Against Spring Leaf Burning By Officials
Conservation Commission officials urge against spring burning of dead leaves and vegetation. They say burning adds nothing to soil and harms fertility by destroying organic material and reducing soil absorptive capacity, leading to runoff erosion and damage to fence rows, posts, poles, buildings, wildlife habitat, and landscape aesthetics. Continuous burning may foster noxious weed germination and offers no grass improvement.
