Old Fayette County Troops in the War
The Twelfth Iowa Infantry, formed in 1861 at Camp Union, Dubuque, drew Fayette County men. Capt. W. Warner led the company, with David B. Henderson and others who later gained prominence in law, politics, and state affairs. The unit included Floridian ties to Clermont and Pleasant Valley townships, and many veterans returned to local life, some serving in education, law, and public office.
