Tire rules require in-vehicle inspection records and reporting of serial irregularities. some applicants may still receive permits if inspections occurred within 60 days. Tires turned in need not wait 30 days if an OPA official approves disposal. Fuel oil for home canning is authorized. farm wiring and wire purchases are eased with AA-3 priority. Prison guard units in Fort Madison build skills for service

Fort Madison guard units drill two hours weekly with their own papers, enlistment, and noncommissioned officers. Lotte Lehmann, a German soprano with the Metropolitan Opera, received her first citizenship papers and must wait years for final naturalization.

Sailors Call Ships She in Old Seafaring Style
A corny joke notes ships are called she for their best showing in wind. A pun suggests boats hang around as if at home each night. A brother was fired from a department store for lifting a blouse counter sign and placing it on a tub display. The sign asked how you would like to see your best girl in one of these for only $1.99.
