Rotation Will Cut Loss Due to Soil Erosion

Prof Miller of Missouri outlines soil erosion rates at a joint Kansas Crop Improvement meeting. Farmers Notes on Fertility and Efficiency in the Field

Greens in the garden outperform monetary gains from pork. It costs more to skip good machinery than to buy it. Feed the soil and it will feed you. Weed control is costly both in price and value losses. Farmers plan for insect and disease battles this summer. An indoor pump reduces outdoor exercise, but many farmers would not skip it. Scrub cattle ruin profits more than a clumsy bull in the yard. Manure hauled directly to fields saves 53 cents per ton at the agricultural experiment station bull. Home butchering and canning may save more than feeding cheaply. Lime and phosphorus in the form of ground limestone and acid phosphate improve mineral intake for dairy cows and boost pasture with clover and alfalfa.
