Rev M J Locke departed Monday morning for Independence after taking part in Sunday dedication services where he preached a very able sermon Sunday evening. Miss Neue Neuenschwander from Castalia visited her relatives here and enjoyed her spring vacation from teaching duties in Alma schools.
A bright April day marked the dedication of Elgin’s new community church built for English language worship. Rev. J H Graham led planning and design while parishioners raised funds, with Rev. Porter, Temple and others preaching through the dedication week. The 70 by 36 foot brick structure nests in a heart of Elgin, house of worship, hall, and club room, featuring oak pews, a bell from a former minister, and a Gothic interior reflecting English country church style. The project cost about 11,460 dollars, with hopes the final cost would not reach 16,000 dollars, and will stand as a monument to local unity and faith.
J Harlan Graham selected to succeed Rev A Earl Kernahan as pastor of Klein church. He comes from Elgin Iowa after six years in Wiggin, with two young sons and Mrs Graham. Graham may arrive in time for Sunday services and is praised for building a substantial church in the Upper town Conference.
Auto drivers are notified of an ordinance regulating speed within Elgin. The mayor A M Welber urges strict enforcement and asks citizens to assist. Also noted is a visit from Mrs. A Meyer and daughter of Castalia with sisters Amelia and Louise Schroeder, who returned home Wednesday.
