Interstate Power seeks franchise to erect and maintain electric lines

Official notice from the Iowa State Commerce Commission informs Fay Fayette County residents that Interstate Power Company of Dubuque has filed a petition for a franchise to construct operate and maintain electric transmission lines across public and private lands in Fayette County Iowa. The hearing is set for May 1 1951 at 10 a.m. in Des Moines with objections due five days before. The commission urges objectors to be represented by someone with full authority.

Dormant Spray Guidelines for Brush Control in Fields

Dormant spray effectively reduces brush before buds swell and leaves emerge. It penetrates leafless brush with low pressure, minimizes drift risk, and uses a mix of one half 2,4-D and one half 2,4,5-T at two pounds active material per acre in oil for better bark penetration. A note warns of a looming shortage of old burlap bags.

Clayton County Tax Increases Across Towns and Townships

A report from County Treasurer Everett Hegenaick shows total property tax levies of 1,625,186.60 across schools towns and townships, an increase of 102,320.53 over last year’s certified amount. Luana records the largest rise at 8.95, while Guttenberg notes the biggest decrease at 15.11 less than prior year. Farmersburg F and W district posts a 10.54 rise. Volga up 3.90. Highland up 5.60. Sperry up 3.61. Marion up 0.90. Wagner districts show decreases of 23c and 1.26 respectively. St Olaf also down 4.08.
