GOP Delegates Selected for National Convention in Philadelphia
Republicans selected 28 delegates and 23 alternates to attend the national convention opening in Philadelphia on June 26 to choose the presidential nominee. The event featured remarks by veterans including Attorney William O. Weaver of Wapello and Senator William E. Jenner of Indiana, urging greater voter participation and reminding veterans of their postwar duty to engage in politics. Weaver warned that politics is only a dirty business if citizens abdicate involvement, stressing that everyone is a politician by action or inaction. The report also notes a state tax pamphlet by Louis Cook illustrating how tax dollars are allocated to cities, counties, and school districts.
