Beer Pays the Bill for New State Office Building

The state legislature considers funding a Capitol Hill office building totaling about 1.2 million dollars. Revenue from the beer tax, projected at 1.5 million annually, is proposed to reimburse the general fund after paying public deposits and sinking fund claims by July 1, 1940.

State plans new capitol grounds office building

After funds were found, all factions support a state office building to house scattered state departments. Gov Wilson and the legislature approve. The House moved to authorize construction and a second bill would reimburse the general fund from beer tax accruals after July 1, 1940. Current rentals total about 150000 annually. Construction would end external leases. Plans are overseen by the state executive council with the interim committee on retrenchment and reform. Site likely southeast of the capitol.
