Centennial Scene Honors Chester Friends Church Founders
The Chester Friends Church observed a century of worship traditions from log cabin meetings with James Talbrut and W P Hennicutt to a church built in 1969 on the present site. The Sabbath School began in 1864, Monthly Meeting in 1892, and the Women's Missionary Society in 1904 with five charter members. The cemetery began in 1869, first burial for Mrs Daniel Lundy, with land donated by William Hinshaw who asked no burial charges. Ministers serving include J S Bond, J Hadley, James Lundy, J S Hackett, E W Hinshaw, Mrs Elyiva Hinshaw, and others up to current pastor Mrs Pauwine Comly.

Methodist Pageant Is Slated Saturday Night
A centennial pageant depicting a century of church history will be staged at the Methodist church Saturday night at 8.00 pm with nearly 100 in the cast directed by Jack Piper and Roy Ryan. Narrators include Mrs. W. H. Van Tiger Beecher Crosley and Milo A. Myers. Music by Mrs. Merle Froning and Mrs. Jack Leonard. Stage properties by Jurgen Tjaden. Casting committee members are Mrs Howard Frey Mrs Bob Brown and Mrs Jim Hauser. Lighting by Robert Longenecker. Cast scenes cover 1854 Edgington family Baptismal Marriage and Camp scenes along with War years and 1904 semi centennial part.

Cong Youth Retreat Planned by Pilgrim Fellowship
The Pilgrim Fellowship youth group of Webster City will hold its annual retreat at Quaker Heights Eldora and the First Congregational church. Des Moines Register writer C. C. Clifton and his wife Lucille were injured in an automobile crash near Boulder City Nevada last Wednesday. Mrs Clifton formerly Lucille Reaver of Eldora whose father once operated a local tile factory. They received treatment at a Boulder City hospital.

Eight lawler sons born at Eldora hospital in record
Last Thursday morning the Jerold Lawler family welcomed eight sons after a birth night at Eldora Memorial Hospital. Triplet brothers Mathew Mark and Myron joined five older sons Patrick James Joseph Daniel and Kenneth, with James and Joseph as twins. The hospital birth followed a Smuck family triplet birth at Eldora hospital, the first there. Dr Nyquist attended both sets of triplets. The mother Mrs Lawler, 27, and the eight boys, weighing 5 pounds 6 ounces to 7 pounds 6 ounces, are reported doing well.

Brucellosis Test Planned Across County in October
The county extension office will lead a Brucellosis ring test in October with creameries and dairies aiding. A mobile laboratory will operate the week of Oct 4 in Hardin County. The new highway postal service starts in Eldora with northbound mail at 6 a.m. daily except Sundays and holidays and southbound at 7:21 p.m. Two highway post offices will serve Eldora with routes from Tama to Albert Lea and from Des Moines to Austin crossing at Grundy Center. The inaugural run is Sept 31 with two sections meeting at Clarion and Des Moines route buses arriving Grundy Center at 1:57 p.m. and 6:27 a.m. daily.

Veterans Day Request To Legion Head
The Eldera American Legion post drafts a resolution urging the state Legion commander to seek Gov William Beardsley’s proclamation of November 11 as Veterans Day and to request Iowa businesses close. A Falls community school district in Hardin and Franklin counties released a tentative merger map. The present Town Falls Independent district covers about four sections with a $5.63 million valuation, while the proposed 122-section area would be worth about $14 million. Two-Man Fire Team Winners Shine for Eldora at State Meet
Chief O. R. Lamb and Wen Willig of the Eldora Fire Department won the state two-man hose coupling contest in Independence in 6 seconds. Eldora’s four-man record remains unbroken from 1936. Lamb was elected fourth vice president of the state organization as next year’s convention heads to Grinnell.
