Lake Drought Drains With Nets Catching Fish Run
Lake drainage continued with three springs feeding a small ongoing flow. Nets in Pine creek near the bridge captured larger game fish while most of this year’s hatch reportedly passed through. Bass decline linked to habitat loss at local lake
The Des Moines river area near Humboldt shows bass returning from nets after habitat restoration concerns. Supt Hicks notes the lake had been a desert for fish due to lack of vegetation, with stunted bass and diminished nests as rough fish ruined aquatic plants. Replanting vegetation may progress naturally from a seed bed in the upper lake.
