Nitrogen Boosts Brome Seed Crop Yields in Iowa
Agronomist Darren Metcalfe of Iowa State College reports nitrogen applied in fall or early spring can lift next year's bromegrass seed yields by three to eight times, with 40 to 80 pounds per acre ideal. He warns 80 pounds risks lodging, favoring 60 pounds as a practical average, and notes fall application ensures seed-ready plants for next year. Spring timing is slightly less advantageous but workable.
