Gillette Weekly Washington Report Highlights Livestock Outlook
Senator Gillette surveys Iowa readers on livestock trends with remarks on 105 million hogs annually, a 5 percent bigger pig crop, and hog price supports around 18 dollars this fall. He notes a 2 to 3 percent rise in steer slaughter and cautions about price dips, plus a push for prudent farm forestry and a call for doctor draft delays to protect rural medical services. He also critiques a Senate judiciary push for universal federal judge investigations as potentially divisive.

Forestry bill praised as key step in landowner aid
A letter from Paul W. Schoen executive secretary of the Forest Farmers association praises a proposed forestry bill as a major forward step since the Norris Doxsey Act of 1937. The measure would provide technical services to private forest landowners on a federal state county cooperative basis. Also noted is postponement of universal military training legislation and a setback on defense production act exchange regulation. Nearby social visits are mentioned with Austin Abendroth, Milwaukee, Mrs Otto Grobe, Ackley, and C A Van Patterson.
