About 80 percent of the $1,991,481.26 in current Hardin county personal and real estate taxes were paid before the Oct 4 deadline, county treasurer Helen Schumacher said. Delinquent lists for real estate and personal property taxes will be published in November. a 0.75 percent monthly penalty applies to unpaid taxes. Services were held in Holland for Dick Werkman Jr. 70 retired Rock Island Railroad employee who died at his home. Born in the Netherlands he married Winnie Smit in 1907 and they moved to Holland three years later. Surviving are his widow nine children 25 grandchildren four great grandchildren and several brothers and sisters in The Netherlands.
