Hardin County Board Opposes Resignation After Grand Jury

Hardin County board members Hillis Wilson Martin Ryken and Frank Bevan publish an open letter to taxpayers asserting resigning now would harm the county. The Grand Jury had urged immediate resignation over irregularities in road work and county operations, while stressing no personal gain. The letter defends the board as financially prudent and argues for continued service, noting below state averages in taxes and admin costs and improvements in roads and drainage. A range of actions remains possible, including resignation, removal proceedings, or state-led petitions, with next elections in 1954.
