Cases Against Stebe Settled Out of Court
Three district court petitions against Henry Stebe arising from an August 15, 1947 collision between a 1B pickup driven by Stebe and an Eldora city fire truck were dismissed Thursday as settlements were reached out of court. City of Eldora received $711.45 for damages to the Dodge fire truck. Wubbens sought $50,000 for injuries and $1,036 for medical care. Newby sought $201.90 for medical care and $5,000 for arm, back and rib injuries and lost time.

Boy-Files Way Out Ends With Fifth Escape
Robert Huston, 17, of Cedar Rapids, jailed after his fifth escape from a training school this year. Using a file from a school shop, he cut a window frame opening in a metal window at the north side of the highway building and fled. Arrested in Marshalltown, he faces breaking and entering charges. He was with 15-year-old Robert Jabeu during prior escapes. Huston’s latest episode ended with return to confinement. The juvenile case awaits Judge Sherwood A. Clocksoon.

Eldora Stores to Close Friday for Armistice Day
All Eldora business houses will be closed Friday in observance of Armistice Day, announced by the Chamber of Commerce. The retail board had voted the closure last January and urged merchants to display the American flag that day.

Earl Fuzz Madey is in El Dora Memorial hospital with head injuries and bruises after being struck about 6 p m Friday at the Edington avenue intersection opposite Cable s D X station. Sheriff’s deputy Paul Hodgson reports Hadley’s condition listed as satisfactory Monday morning. Iverson of Ellsworth, driving about 20 miles per hour, said a ventilator protruding from the front bumper struck Hadley and spun him to the pavement.

Pheasant Hunt Opens Friday in Iowa With Big Crowd Expected
The 1949 pheasant season opens at noon Friday November 11 as the State Conservation Commission forecasts about 100000 licensed hunters in the fields. Last year’s results boosted optimism with many securing two cock birds. Pheasants are heaviest in northwest and north central regions with good numbers east central and central Iowa. Hunters urged to Kill No Hens, secure landowner permission, handle firearms safely, and follow ethics. Season runs noon to 430 pm daily through December with a two cock bag limit and four cocks possession after day one.

Overseas Dividends for Eastern Star Aid to Needy War Victims
Women of Eldora Iowa lodge of the Order of Eastern Star sent nine containers of clothing and supplies to war victims overseas as part of the 1949 Aid and Cheer project.
