Dale Lawless To Head Legion Post In Eldora Iowa

Dale Lawless of rural Eldora was elected commander of Walter Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion at the club meeting. He will succeed Don Rosine as commander. other officers include Ray Roling first vice commander Orville Gatton second vice commander Tom Sayer chaplain C W Cockerman finance officer J T Livingood historian Gene Foster service officers Irvin Cakerbece and Art Orgell sergeants-at-arms. Installation is planned for July. Eldora representatives to Boys' State Don Harmon Steve Cordes Andrew Hauser spoke on Camp Dodge trip.

Dr Wallace Orgell Named Biology Professor in Nebraska

Dr Wallace H Orgell of Delray Florida a 1946 New Providence high school graduate has been named professor of biology at Hiram Scott College Scottsbluff Nebraska. He begins in fall after a career at Florida Atlantic University and Iowa State University with a NS F postdoctorate and published works with major journals. He and wife Georgia hold advanced science degrees.

Eldora School Gets 12800 For Summer Program

Eldora Community School received 12800 in federal funds under Title I to finance a summer program offering music art mathematics and reading. Eighty five students in grades one through six are enrolled, and the program is now in its third week.

Union School Hires New Third Grade Teacher

The Union-Whitten School board announced the hiring of Marilyn Hawkins of LeMars as third grade teacher for 1966 67. Hawkins plans to move to Union this summer.

Ta Ma Ha District Activities Chairman Mat Kallestad presents Ted Rubow with the Pine Wood Derby Grand Champion trophy at Franklin Field in Marshalltown on Sunday June 12. Ted also won the first heat, with Eldora scouts Steve Perkins Rod Ryan Robbie Barnes Brad Pettigrew Ricky Hazelwood Josef Hassman and Tom DeVries placing in various heats.

Edmundo Lanas to depart Eldora for Ecuador in July

Ecuadorian foreign exchange student Edmundo Lanas will leave Eldora on June 28 to join a month long American Field Service bus trip across parts of the United States ending in Washington DC with a reception by President and Mrs. Johnson. He will fly home July 25 closing about a year in the United States with host family Mr and Mrs Clarence DeCook. Lanas earned his high school diploma in Eldora's recent commencement. No foreign exchange student has been announced for Eldora for 1966 67.

Summer Band Concerts Begin Wednesday Nite

Eldora High School Band presents a 1966 summer series starting Wednesday June 22 at 8 p.m. Conductor Manfred Kekstadt lists pieces including Star Spangled Banner Gladiator March 16th Regiment Die Meistersinger and Youd Be So Nice To Come Home To. Concerts are at the bandstand in Eldora Swimming Pool Park.

Eldora Hires New Art Teacher for 1966-67

Superintendent Paul Simons reports resignation of Mrs Don Anderson from Eldora schools and announces the appointment of Mrs Mary Lee Amberg to teach art for the 1966-67 year. Amberg, a Mankato State College graduate, previously taught at Huntley, Minnesota, and is sister of Mrs Robert Barnes of Eldora. The staff for the coming year is completed.

Mrs Gray of Cedar Rapids Dies

Mrs. J. H. Gray of Cedar Rapids died Monday afternoon at St. Luke's Hospital after a heart attack. Services were held Thursday afternoon in Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her husband two daughters Mrs Wayne Jessings Williamsville NY and Mrs Jay Laguna Denver CO two brothers Clyde Sheldon Eldora and Frank Sheldon Mesa AZ and one sister Mrs E A Rosenberger Cedar Rapids.

Reseal Storage Rates Continue For 1966-67

Rates for on farm reseal storage of grain under the price support loan for 1966-67 are unchanged from 1965-66. Carrol W White, Chairman, ASC County Committee, announced the rates align with CCC rates for grains stored in commercial warehouses under UGSA. Final payments are based on units of 100 bushels or 100 hundredweights, with the final rate using units and tenths. Continuous eligibility applies to corn from 1965 1964 1963 and 1962 crops and oats from 1965 and 1964 crops, with CCC call rights and option to deliver or redeem when called. If grain is delivered or redeemed early, storage payments reflect storage months.

Investigating Ackley Break-in At Temple Tap

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office probes a Friday night break in at the Temple Tap in Ackley. The thief took around $20 in change and a number of sparettes. 80 000 In Road Contracts Led By County

Hardin county let road contracts totaling over 80 000 dollars. G FE Hills of Mason City received 60 541.37 to grade 3.12 miles near Union, starting June 20 and finishing by September 15. The project extends north from a point west of Union. Pierce Construction Co. Inc. of Ventura received 20 849.62 for concrete culverts and other road structures.

Three Minor Mishaps Reported In County Sunday

Three vehicle mishaps were reported in Tardin County on Saturday morning. Beverly Mer Busoni of Minneapolis lost control on a gravel road west of Phab bard, veering into a ditch and suffering bruises and lacerations. Ira Whitwood, 64, of Vidora, drove off a curve on Highway A7, injuring his bruised arm. Union hack struck a parked vehicle on the Main Street, injuring none. Charlene Bartsch of El Dora drove the other car. Damages were estimated at 1500 to 5400 with charges of improper start filed against Smitherman Park.

Sinn Panels For Medicare Approval At Kidora Memorial

Certificates for approval of the Kidora Memorial Hospital for Medicare were signed and sent to Social Security. Richard Clock, hospital administrator, said government approval is needed and expected soon. Eldora Memorial Hospital had been listed as eligible for Medicare participation nationwide for the program starting July 1.

Large Attendance At Pine Lake Weekend Record

A large turnout was recorded at Pine Lake State Park with 9,800 visitors on Sunday. Camping activity was high with 96 units camping Friday and 186 units registered Saturday at the lakes.

Dennis Fulton son of Mr and Mrs Richard Fulton of Whitten has been elected president of the Student Association of Mortuary Science at the University of Minnesota He will be a senior student at the university.

Reassignment Sets Rev Walter Diminitch for Hidora Church

At the North Town Conference in Mason City Rev Walter Diminitch was reassigned to Hidora Methodist Church effective after the four day meeting which marks the church fiscal year end. The conference announced a six week trainee minister later this summer to assist Dimmlich as Vern Mueller served as lay delegate.

Boat Race on Iowa River Planned for Sunday

The Iowa River Preservation Association will sponsor a six mile boat race on the Iowa River from the Hardin City bridge to Steamboat Rock on Sunday June 26. Entries open at the Hardin City bridge with a $1 fee, no motors allowed, life jackets advised, prizes awarded by age totals, observers welcome from Sylvan Hill Park to the finish line.

Corn Still Has Chance Says Bean Crop In Serious Stage

County Extension Director Kim Goode reported heavy rains in Hardin county have pushed some bean crops to the serious stage while corn still has a chance. The late crops fared worst as rain delayed spring work and cultivation. If farmers don’t enter bean fields this week grass will sod, hindering cultivation and inviting weeds and harvest issues. Proper cultivation methods and equipment can improve corn prospects by better weed control and later spraying.

Meeting At Union Discussed Youth Center Possibility

A small Union group met at the schoolhouse Friday night to explore establishing a youth center or recreation area. Bob Bayes briefed on committee findings including available buildings and prices after visiting Hubbard pool and Eldora youth center. Little was decided. more information and local consensus are to be gathered.

Ice Cream Social and Band Concert at Union Park

A homemade ice cream social and band concert are planned for Union Park on Wednesday, June 22. Proceeds fund new uniforms for the Union-Whitten band. Ice cream served 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., concert at 7:30 p.m. If rain occurs, the event moves to the Union gym.
